Note: Linking books do not create ages, only allow travel to other preexisting ages. For information on creating ages, see Descriptive Book.
Linking Books are special books that will allow players to travel to the exact place the Linking Book was created. Linking Books do not work from the same Age (Dimension) the player is in, meaning that players cannot use a Linking Book to the Overworld if they are in the Overworld.
For 1.5.2 and further users Make an ink mixing station, take ink bottle and place in GUI. Take piece of paper and place in GUI, get Link Panel. Take Link Panel and mix with leather, get Unlinked Linkbook. Right Click Unlinked Linkbook at desired link location and get a linkbook keyed to that location.
The ink mixer can take various special items to add special effects to the link panel. Clay has a chance to add "Generate Platform", Gunpowder "Disarming", Ender Pearls "Interlinking" (the most useful one currently, as it lets you link to the same dimension without leaving it first), and feathers for "Maintain Momentum" for good portal gun style fun with linking (mostly with crystal portals). There is currently nothing you can mix to get "Following" (plus the link modifier is now has no recipe so you can't get it legit), nor "Relative" which is new, and lets you apparently use linkbooks kind of like nether portals in of that you move on the overworld as well as the age, so one can apparently use it to breach "invincible" bases
If you right-click while holding a Linking Book, a GUI will come up. Clicking the black rectangle will cause you to travel through the linking book, causing you to drop it on the ground where you left it. Clicking the book itself in the GUI will allow you to place it in your inventory. While on the ground, the linking book can be damaged. It can also be right-clicked while on the ground. Linking Books can also be placed on Linkbook Stands so they are not dropped.
- It is very important to always bring a Linking Book created in the overworld, otherwise you could be trapped in an age forever. If you become trapped in an age, the simplest way to return to the Overworld is to find a Star Fissure, since falling through one will return you to the Overworld. If no Star Fissures exist in the Age you're in, you will need to travel to another age - to do so you will need a new Descriptive Book, unless you have one with the Star Fissure rune in it. Nether Portals will not light in Mystcraft Ages, so that method will not work. You may elect to cheat by spawning in a portal, however.
