Linking is the act of traveling between ages. Currently the player can use Descriptive Books to create and travel to new ages, or Linking Books to travel to places the player has already visited. Players can also find Star Fissures which will return them to the Overworld spawn.

Players can link from any age (or dimension such as the Overworld, Nether or End) to any other age, provided they have a book to take them.

Held BookEdit

The easiest way to link is to use a Linking or Descriptive Book from the inventory. Selecting the book from the hotbar as one would select a tool, then holding use will cause the book to draw back and shake. When the player releases use, they will link to the location the book specifies, and the book will fall open to the ground. In this state the book will take damage like any other entity, and will take damage over time, eventually leading to the destruction of the book.

Book StandsEdit

Linking or Descriptive Books can be placed on stands by using the desired book on an empty stand, also called a Linkbook Stand (refer to the MystCraft Wiki to learn how to craft it). This will display the book in an open state and ensure the book will not be destroyed if left unattended, and is recommended for any books players wish to keep safe. To link using a book on a stand, players simply press use on the base of the stand to bring up the Book GUI. (In this GUI, a player can see the name of the age as well as all symbols in a book before linking.) Linking is completed by clicking on the black linking panel.

Age portal frames can be created by crystal and create a one-way door into an age when a book is placed in them. Unlike held books or book stands, a player can simply touch any area inside the portal to move into its age.

Star FissuresEdit

Star Fissures are naturally occuring but rare features in ages. They appear to be a chasm down to bedrock levels, with a star filled portal at the bottom. Any players or entities entering the portal will be returned safely to spawn on the Overworld. These are a last resort for those unlucky enough to have linked without a way back.

Dangers and LimitationsEdit

Before a player travels to a different age, it is very highly reccommended that they bring a Linking Book with them, in order to have a way back to where they came from. Without a Linking Book or Star Fissure, players can be trapped on an age forever. Some ages may come with resources to create new books and start over, but many do not. It is hard to return to the overworld without a linking book or Star Fissure. (in-game)

When a Descriptive Book is first written or used, the Symbols chosen determine the age's look and feel. If the player did not choose enough symbols themselves, the symbols conflict with each other, or inherently unstable symbols are chosen, then the newly created age will be unstable .

Intra-Age LinkingEdit

Neither Linking Books nor Descriptive Books allow players to link to a location in the same age they currently occupy. Players wanting to move from one place to another in the same age will need to walk, create railways, or link to another age before linking back to their destination.
