Symbols contains information about the Mystcraft mod.
Symbols are the building blocks of ages. When written in a Descriptive Book they control the generation of the terrain of the age, as well as speed of celestial bodies and fog levels. Symbols are the current focus of development and more are being added each update. When a player creates a descriptive book, it contains no Symbols. The player can write custom ages by specifying Symbols from a notebook to be added to an age, or leave it blank to learn new Symbols. When a player links using a descriptive book, some Symbols may be automatically added. See Writing for more details.
Players can view or add Symbols to descriptive books by placing them in a writing desk. As of 0.8.4 Symbols are now visible in the book itself.
Please note that Symbols are no longer organized by their categories in the notebook, but instead by a much more player friendly organizational system where Symbols are grouped by what they appear to do on the player's end. This makes writing stable ages without a resource such as this wiki much less challenging. This page's Symbol categories will be reorganized into the player facing groupings in the near future.
Symbols are organized into one or more categories, based on the Symbol's effects. Each category belongs to a type, either Primary or Secondary. Primary Categories require a minimum and maximum number of Symbols, while Secondary Categories may have any number of Symbols.
Symbols in the Fog, Sky, and Sunset categories can be mixed, and multiple copies of the same Symbol will make that color stronger in the mix.
