Elevator Rails are specially-designed, Redstone-powered rails designed to move carts vertically, instead of horizontally.

UsageEdit

Elevator Rails are placed on walls, rather than level ground. Rails powered by Redstone signals will lift a minecart up, and unpowered rails will lower a minecart do

wn at reduced speed, similar to a player sliding down a ladder.

Additionally, Elevator rails (both powered or unpowered) can be used as a ladder by players on-foot.

When a Redstone signal is applied to one of the track sections, it powers all of the Elevator Rails attached below it. Because of this, Redstone circuits can be set up to have a single Elevator track drop off mine-carts at different levels, by changing up the redstone signal.

As of version 3.3.0, if a track is placed one block away from the end of a powered elevator track section, the cart will stop and be 'pushed off' onto that track. Placing Powered Rails at the top and bottom of an Elevator Rail produces the best results. This will create a slope, similar to placing a rail one block below another.
